Warm, wet, and wild. Those are words Katy Perry used to describe California in a secular song and now they are words that I would use to describe today.
The day started in the usual way: breakfast and then some team time. The team time today, however, was devoted to allowing students to fill out end of tour evaluation papers. After this time, StreetWise had their final session with worship, teaching, and a testimony from a woman from Urban Hope.
In the afternoon, students were sent to walk around the neighborhood and initiate conversations with people they encountered. They were also encouraged to spread the word of Urban Hope’s Splash Party, which was to take place later in the day.
There was some free time in the afternoon, but not before dinner came along and prep began for the Splash Party. The party was planned as an outreach event for children in the area. Our team helped set up and greeted kids as they showed up. After a night full of water balloons, water shooters, plain unadulterated water, and other water related activities, we saw over one hundred kids come to the event. It was a wet blast!
After cleaning up, the team had a special meal of Philly cheesesteaks and celebrated their last dinner as a full team. Tomorrow, Devon will depart for family vacation immediately following our Sunday morning program. As the goodbyes start, please keep us in your prayers. Pray for strength, and that emotions would not hinder the heart for our ministry. Tomorrow is our final program, and then we travel. Support us in prayer as we seek to see God move.
