The following individuals will be leading the two Operation Barnabas teams, the East Team & the Buckeye Team, as they tour June 20 – July 11, 2016.
Originally from Martinsburg, Pennsylvania, Dave is very familiar with Operation Barnabas having participated as a high school student in 1995, and as a leader in 1999, 2001, 2002, & 2003.Carly grew up in Warsaw, Indiana and was introduced to OB when she served as a leader in 2003. Dave and Carly met while students at Grace College and have been married for 12 years. Together they’ve had the opportunity to lead short-term teams of OB alumni during the 2004 (Beyond, in Inner-city Philadelphia) and 2010 (OBI, in Boracay, Philippines) summers.Dave might be familiar to many as the better half (according to Dave) of “Mark and Dave” from Momentum Youth Conference and Carly is known to many youth workers as the Momentum registrar.They are the proud parents of four children, Jack (9), Henry (7), Emilia (4), and Charlie (2). They’re excited to serve together and invest in the lives of students this summer while getting to involve their whole family in this life-changing discipleship process.
Marc is originally from Buena Park, California, and is now a Mechanical Engineering student at Grace College and Theological Seminary. He was a student on Operation Barnabas in 2012 and led on Team Indiana during Operation Barnabas 2015.Marc is an upbeat guy, always searching for adventure. Some of his favorite hobbies are playing sports, longboarding, and having good talks with friends. His favorite color is blue and his favorite superhero is Captain America. You’ll have no problem becoming friends with this guy. He’s got the SoCal surfer vibe running through his veins!
Sam is from Akron, Indiana and a Biblical Studies major at Grace College. Sam was a leader on the Ohio team in 2015 and has a passion for discipling others to a fuller, deeper, and more joyful relationship with the Lord. Sam states, “I have benefited so much myself by men mature in the faith who took the time and energy to invest in me. I am excited to see how the Lord is going to build and mature your son or daughter’s faith this summer and I feel blessed that I can be a part of it.”
Rachel is originally from the south (Go, Cowboys!), but relocated to Ohio when her dad accepted a pastorate in Springfield. She obtained a Bachelor’s of Early Childhood Education and a Master’s of Education from Cedarville University. Rachel currently resides in Westerville, Ohio and is in her 11th year of teaching for Worthington Christian Schools, presently 3rd grade. Loving people, Rachel is involved in various ministries at Grace Polaris, including youth group. Rachel loves to travel and dabble in photography… especially pictures of her niece and nephew!
Stephanie is originally from a small town in Western Pennsylvania, Roaring Spring, but has recently moved closer to her workplace, Altoona Honda. Steph shares, “I went on Operation Barnabas as a student in 2009 and can say that it was a pivotal point in my life knowing that I wanted to be more serious in my faith and to allow the Lord to use me to further His kingdom.After attending Penn State for a year, I felt called to go to South Carolina School of Leadership. Spending two years there, I have learned much about scripture, my identity in Christ, discipleship and leadership and am now able to pass that training on to the youth group that I work with. I am so looking forward to being an OB leader this summer. I can’t wait to see the spiritual growth that will happen and to be able to experience that time with your students is something that I will cherish.” Steph loves games, traveling, Chinese food and cleaning!
Timothy & Dana Kurtaneck
TK (Timothy) and Dana Kurtaneck will be leading the 2016 East Coast Operation Barnabas team this summer. This will be TK’s 17th tour and Dana’s 14th tour with Operation Barnabas. The Kurtanecks have been on staff with CE National since 1995 and TK is the director of Operation Barnabas and youth leadership training. TK and Dana have been married for 25 years and their children are Bekah (OB 2010; leader 2013 and 2014) and Nick (OB 2012). TK says, “Dana and I have had the opportunity of a lifetime to be involved with Operation Barnabas through the years. We are as committed as ever to seeing the next generation trained and equipped in ministry and to see God use them in great ways for His glory. OB 2016, here we come!”
Taylor is from Dublin, Ohio but currently lives in Sebring, Florida where she attends The Great Commission Bible Institute. She graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in music education and hopes to be a band director this upcoming year. Taylor has worked with a variety of ministries and she is extremely passionate about working with and discipling youth. This is Taylor’s third year leading OB and she is so excited to have the opportunity to do so again. She is an OB alum from 2009 and an OBI Philippines alum as well. As a student, OB helped her grow as a follower of Christ and she can’t wait to see how the Lord works again this summer.
Andrea hails from Kendallville, Indiana, but is currently living in Winona Lake completing her senior from Grace College and in May will receive her Bachelor’s degree in Youth Ministry. Andrea attends Community Grace in Warsaw and helps with 909 Student Ministries where she adores investing in her middle school girls. Andrea is also involved in various other leadership roles around campus. Andrea was an OB student in 2010 and this is her second year leading Operation Barnabas. Andrea has a heart for the next generation and is looking forward to helping the students develop their leadership skills and walking alongside them as they grow in their relationship with Christ. Andrea is on a first name basis with many baristas in the area due to the vast amounts of coffee that she drinks. She also loves traveling, music, cats, Pinterest, and spending time with friends. She is currently in prayer about where God is calling her next after graduation.
Tristan is from Kendallville, Indiana, and is currently double majoring in Youth Ministry and Biblical Studies at Grace College. Tristan has a heart for youth and for seeing them grow to love Jesus Christ. He currently attends Community Grace Brethren Church in Warsaw, Indiana, and serves as an adult leader for 909 Student Ministries. As an OB alum, he is excited for the opportunity to be a first-time leader this summer, and he is looking forward to the ways God will work. Interests include making waffles, playing music, and the Muppets.
